6 weeks consumption of pure fresh coconut milk caused up-regulation of eNOS and CSE protein expression in middle-aged male rats BJPS

Coconut milk (CCM) has been an important cooking ingredient in the Asia-Pacific region since ancient time. Due to its high content of saturated fatty acids, it has been considered atherogenic. We have tested if chronic consumption of fresh coconut milk by middle-aged male rat affects vascular function, plasma glucose and lipid profiles. Compared to control, CCM caused lower maximal contraction to phenylephrine of thoracic aortic rings and increased relaxation to acetylcholine that was abolished by N G-nitro-L-arginine (L-NA) or disruption of the endothelium. DL-propargylglycine caused slight increase in baseline tension of L-NA treated aortic rings of CCM-treated rats and produced higher contractile response of the aortic rings to low concentrations of...

Gross anatomical study of the aortic ARC branches of the paca (Agouti paca, Linnaeus, 1766) Braz. J. Vet. Res. Anim. Sci.
OLIVEIRA,Fabrício Singaretti de; MACHADO,Márcia Rita Fernandes; MIGLINO,Maria Angélica; NOGUEIRA,Tatiana Monreal.
It was described the distribution of the aortic arc in eight animals of the Agouti paca species, which were 2 adult females, 3 young males and 3 young females that came from the Wild Animal Sector at the Faculty of Agrarian and Veterinary Sciences of Jaboticabal - UNESP. After natural death, the animals had their arterial vessels injected with Neoprene latex 650® coloured by a specific pigment and set in a 10% formalin solution. After dissection, it was noticed that the aortic arc gives off the left subclavian artery and the brachiocephalic trunk. The latter originates the left carotid common artery and other trunk, that gives off the right carotid common artery and the right subclavian artery, that originates the vertebral artery, the costocervical trunk,...

The effects of chronic AC magnetic field on contraction and relaxation of isolated thoracic aorta rings of healthy and diabetic rats BABT
Öcal,Isil; Günay,Ismail.
The aim of in this study was to determine the effect of chronic alternating current (AC) magnetic field on the contraction and relaxation parameters of isolated thoracic aorta rings in healthy and diabetic rats. Sixty rats (Wistar albino spp) weighing between 250-300 g were used. The rats were divided into four groups: 1-Control (C), 2- control + magnetic field (C+MA), 3- experimental diabetic (DIA), 4- experimental diabetic and magnetic field (DIA+MA). Magnetic fields of 5 mT intensity and 50 Hz frequency oriented in the north-south direction was applied to the C+MA and DIA+MA groups for 2 hours each day for one month, after which rats were killed by decapitation and the thoracic aorta dissected. This showed attenuated contraction responses to...
